I am aware of KDE and GNOME, as well as XFCE-- but while trying to find out more about E-17, I was hoping there was a more complete description of what it is (& what it is not).
I went to the download area and saw a screenshot, but no definitions. I am wondering about whether it is designed for older/lighter equipment? Did see several references to Netbooks- but also saw that several were using it with machines at work and home (so assume not just limited to Netbooks).
I think the OP was looking for advise and I have been using e17 on a regular basis in a work environment so: why not?
skyhawk give it a try, you won't regret it

I agree, the LXDE remaster that Neal did is great is just that I love a pretty face
katie "Enlightenment" I use it as a synonymous of e17 (which maybe is not because there is e16 too) and it is in the repositories (look for task-enlightenment if you want to try it) I have KDE 3.x at home and I'm using the repositories from
YouCanToo http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,65202.0.html at this point seems safer to me.
