KDE 4
« on: March 10, 2010, 08:20:08 AM »
Since I seem to be stuck with KDE as my interface, I've been wanting to upgrade to KDE 4.*.  It doesn't show up in any of my repositories, though on this forum and other places, it has been said that 4.3 is available for upgrade.

How do I get this upgrade?

There are Gnome and LXDE and XFCE and Enlightenment DE's for PCLos so you not stuck with KDE (but a beta version of PCLinuxOS 2010 with KDE4.4.1 has just been made available - Go to

http://pclinuxos.com/

and download that from there -

there is also a link on the top of the page GetPCLinuxOs which has links to Gnome etc

Alternatively to update KDE 3.5 search the forum as there are LOADS of posts on updating (or go to the KDE 4 Support section aand look for how to update to KDE4 ) or click this link http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,63698.0.html

I say I'm stuck because, as I've posted previously (and getting help to try to solve it) I am unable to access the E-17 Desktop, even though I installed it through the repository.  It shows up in my boot options, but when I click it, it's ignored in favor of the KDE desktop.  I also (and this is new) am unable to boot from a live CD most of the time.  There's probably something wrong in my hardware rather than software, but that's why I say that I'm "Stuck" with KDE.

I'm hoping that by upgrading, I can circumvent whatever is going on about being unable to use any other desktop environment.
