Live Cd

I have not been able to load a live CD with PC Linux OS 2009.2
The error message that I get is as follows :
"could not detect available memory size.
The particular machine has 384Mb RAM,13Gb HD 700mHz celeron CPU.
On my other machine, which i was able to install the same CD, has a 15Gb HD, 600 MHz CPU, 192 Mb RAM.
WHY?

Some old systems I think you need to type LiveCD at the boot prompt.

There is an obvious difference to the trained eye here - Linux systems being case sensitive and all.

Keep us posted although I am no expert so if you as something really difficult you might have to wait for another forum member to show up.

In the meantime you can introduce yourself on the forum in the introduce yourself section.
You can also look around the current state of affairs which would allow you to see that PCLinuxOS 2010 Beta 1 has been released and most people are working at test installing on their hard drives.

The 2009 repositories where we would have got our software from for the release you are trying to boot are frozen.
If you managed to install 2009.2 to your hard drive and then tried to update you might just find yourself in a world where you can't be supported.

I typed : "LIVE CD" returned msg was "cannot find Kernel Image "
Hope this helps.
I tried the following:
 1) pc linux os 2009.1 downloaded, also the 2009.2 OSdisc
both returned same messages.

Here is a thoughtto get around this problem. Would it make a difference it Itried a "Live Cd"
with another PCLinuxOS flavour; e.g. Gnome Xfce,etc.
Would any of them cause problems ? or maybe because of KDE V3.5.1

What would be the impediment to experimentation?

None of the Live CDs will alter your existing set up.

To all concerned:
I downloaded, the Zen mini 2010 ;made a "live cd" booted up this tower, and LO and Behold ,it loaded. It has a lovely wallpaper, I like the Chinese Graphics. and the dark grey motif. It was very slow to access Firefox and the control
center. So I tried it on my less powerful tower,which also loaded.
When I tried to load the Control Center, it "hung up".
I might install it on that particular tower. To see if it will work.
I especially like the idea of having a minimal distro ,thereby letting you install the packages that you really need.
Here is a suggestion for future consideration.
Build a Distro with just the minimum packages, but enable it to be customized as one requires, e.g.
A Gnome or KDE or XFCE etc. with the ability to download the relevant packages with possible cross-platform, Gnome pkg with KDE or XFCE pkg,witth Gnome or KDE .

p.s. Any Distro that I preview,  try to see if my Brother DCP-115C multifunction ,and my Epson Color Stylus 740
printer are recognised.KDE would not recognise my Epson printer, till PCLinuxOS 2009 was able to.
My Brother is another Saga.

Glad you're up and running.

Regardless of Gnome Zen Mini; LXDE; Phoenix or whatever these are all manifestations of the Linux Distribution known as PCLinuxos 2010.

The repositories are the same so you can run your favourite applications on whatever Desktop Environment you have chosen.

Synaptic is the package manager which also takes care of dependencies which each application requires. You should read up about this on the forum.

Once you choose your desktop environment you can ask questions in the relevant section. For example:

If your user experience of any linux distro is minimal, best to read forum postings.
