2010 Beta 1
« on: March 09, 2010, 01:33:15 PM »
Not prime time! Seems PcLinux has forgotten how to deal with sata CD ROM.

Everything (Mandriva, PcLinux 2009, 2007, 2008 Minime etc, etc, etc) all can deal with my sata cd drives.

So try again.

Buffer errors, kennel panic, all related to sro. SRO is my sata cdrom.

Will try again in a couple of months.

You have a bad burn or a quirky cd drive. Turn your computer completely off, turn it on, put cd in drive and see if it will boot.

That's why it's called "Beta".

For what it's worth - I have Sata and couldn't use any remastered CD with a kernal higher than 2.6.26, but the beta loaded w/o a hitch.

He has a quirky drive. I had the same thing happen to me after I converted one computer a couple of years old to a sata system replacing my ide hd and cdrom. If I burned a cd then rebooted leaving the cd in the drive, it would give me the same errors the OP described. If I turned the computer completely off, powered on and put the cd in the drive it would boot perfect.

Now the question is if whether or not he actually calmed down enough to try that fix you offered him ;)

It'd be a shame if he stormed off without at least trying that. To at least better justify his reasons to wait longer.
Frankly seems like someone having a bad day and just "unleashing" it all at the wrong time.

Radical, try this as I had the same issue:
at boot screen press F6 (kernel options), set it to default, and press enter. Now add this to the boot options: rootdelay=30
fixed the prob for me, as it gives time for devices to be found.
To the devs- I have a sata dvd drive also. It loaded the sb600 driver, but could not find a loop image. In the list of devices, sr0 was listed twice, and dropped me to a shell. So far looking awesome for a beta! Thx!

Nope! He is already going around the net posting that Beta1 doesn't boot from sata drives and don't waste you time on this junk.

Well, I'm a real distro breaker at times, but I could not succeed in breaking PCLinuxOS so far. That's why I try so hard to make as many french remasters as possible.

No boot on SATA ?

I installed 2010 beta1 on this machine: Netbook N210

As you see, sata hard drive, usb boot only (did it from usb key by copying the files to fat32 fs + grub + menu.lst made out of the isolinux.cfg boot lines). It runs fine, my son has allready used if for sending mails to his generous donator. ^^
(He is waiting forward to get the full Battle for Wesnoth to reboot it more often... but we'll try to install the next beta2 on it before wesnoth will be available  :D )

Else, thoses who will say Pclos don't work on 64bits will also be deceived, as this is a small but powerful 64bits 1.66 Ghz processor.

This guy saying PCLinuxOS beta1 does not boot to his drive might  just be a cheap consumer ?  ::)

I didn't know one could post on these forums without being identified and logged in ? Looks like we'll never see Radical again ? One flaming post and then no more news...
