cannot update from repos...
« on: March 01, 2010, 08:20:05 PM »
Been using PCLOS 2009 for better part of a year, without problems... but now cannot update from any repository.
Had "update manager", but found it annoying - and seems the repository problem coincided with the appearance of this notifier - so removed it.
Used Repo Speed Test.... all but 2 repositories failed. The 2 that didn't had rates of 3238 and 388 bytes/sec respectively.
Only use one repository at a time, hit "Reload", download starts e.g. typically 20 or 22 files to be downloaded (might also see a rate e.g. about 120 kbs) but when about half done get notice saying cannot download all docs, might be a problem with the repository etc.
Tried the Synaptic Repair utility, but when prompted to chose a repo get a "failed" notice.
My Malaysian "broadband" connection is not blazingly fast; but I can usally download around 150 kbs. I remeber about a month ago using the Repo Speed Test, and there were lots of repo giving good speeds, and very few "failed".
Any suggestions?

The repos have been frozen for weeks now, while they are getting the 2010 iso ready for release.

OK, thanks... I guess I should be monitoring the forums more often. Being lazy I only check-in when there's a problem. Didn't even know there was a new release in the offing.

A beta just went out to the developers for testing and the RC should be out shortly.  The new iso is going to require a full reinstall, there is NO UPGRADING for this one. The new iso will come standard with KDE4.4 desktop

Thanks for the info... I'll keep and eye out for the release; and will do the new install.

Will we be able to keep /home intact or will it mean backing up and resintalling?

Thanks
