Konqueror sometimes
« on: March 07, 2010, 02:41:13 PM »
For about a week and a half, now, neither Firefox nor Epiphany will get me on line, although my ethernet connection is up.  Konqueror gets me on line sometimes.  And Chromium makes my computer swap.  Right now I'm using my other operating system (wherein the browsers work just fine) ???

What do folks think the problem might be?  Thanks for any help.

It's possible that your Internet connection isn't working even if ethernet reports up. Can you ping any sites from a terminal? Are you using any other programs that access the Internet: email, audio streaming apps, etc.? Do they work? You might try Wireshark to see what's happening.

Hi randymanme,

Do you have the same "homepage" in both Firefox and Epiphany.  If your homepage is experiencing traffic issues it could be as simple as this.  I've had this using the BBC news website as a homepage.

The problem was Ad Blocker.  When I uninstalled Ad Blocker, Firefox became functional again.  Epiphany is still disabled -- when I select tools>extensions, it lists Ad Bock and others but doesn't give uninstall or disable buttons like Firefox does.
