Regarding the /tmp you could check ( ) Erase TMP files on boot, from the PCC boot configuration. So, every time you boot, PCLOS clean the /tmp folder.

this does have a side effect but can't remember which one, maybe it is something about swap but can't remember what

Yes i remember that when you click on it it doesn't actually clears the space just marks files to be erased. the word was compacting versus something else if I remembered right

UPDATED!! ASUS U52F Notebook i5 CPU,  4Gb ram, 640Gb Hard drive Dual-Boot Win 7Pro/KDE 4 3.2.18-pclos2.bfs

ASUS U50F notebook i3 4Gb Ram. 500 GB hard drive dual-boot Win 7/ KDE 3.2.18-pclos2.pae.bfs    Of course thats just my opinion I could wrong
