Regarding the /tmp you could check ( ) Erase TMP files on boot, from the PCC boot configuration. So, every time you boot, PCLOS clean the /tmp folder.

this does have a side effect but can't remember which one, maybe it is something about swap but can't remember what

Yes i remember that when you click on it it doesn't actually clears the space just marks files to be erased. the word was
compacting
versus something else if I remembered right
