X session crashed
« on: March 07, 2010, 06:08:27 AM »
I just shut down my Linux session and the screen went white.  I switched to another console and did 'shutdown -r now'.  When it came back up, I couldn't get my x session to come back.  It says to hit yes or no to try to start up an existing x session.  No matter which choice I try, it doesn't do anything.  I can switch to another console but when I type startx, I get no joy.

How can I kill this hung x session?
 ???
Thanks!!

I have also removed the .X0-lock file from /tmp and tried restarting X in another console but no luck.  I have rebooted after removing the lock file but still nothing.

Anyone know how I can get X windows running again?

hello and welcome to the forum

could you mention your system specs?(specially video card and driver used)

also what desktop are you running

have you tested another user, log to the desktop as root?  does it work?
