WOW! I got it installed!  Exactly what I'm looking for!  Very similar to AudioKonverter but appers to support even more!:)

Just installed pacpl and used it on a folder containing a set of m4a files to convert to mp3 format.   Seems to have worked perfectly.  All I did was to right click on the folder, select actions>pacpl convert and choose mp3 from the enormous list.  It went though the full list with no problems, except a certain amount of waiting.  (This is in a rather unstable KDE4 installation.)
How does one become a hero?  By asking a lot of dumb questions apparently! I have three computers of various ages, the most powerful is a Dell Netbook 10v; each has 2 or 3 versions of PCLOS of various vintages.  Location, St John's, Newfoundland.

If you are referring to me sir, I did read them all the way through.  I was just confirming that it works as a way of thanking you and others for pointing m in the right direction. 

pacpl is so simple, but some people might be put off by the lack of a friendly front end.  You click and there's not much to tell you that anything is happening until the results appear - once upon a time most programs were like that!
