OK I followed the how to properly update your system by Texstar, after it downloaded all files and begins to apply changes it seems to hang at one, "Interface for userspace programs to export to a virtual filesystem..." My laptop has been at this screen for about 2 hours, then i decided to look for answers in the forum. The first one I found was talking about updating problem with an ill fated update list, talking about how many users (me included), will refer to the forum after the fact and asked about the phone home options for pclos which I right now think would be a good idea. I did just make a copy of my system on a live USB drive a day or two back.

My question is should I interupt the applying changes process and just reload from the usb? If so is there a link to a how to restore my system?

I don't know enough about your situation to be able to answer that correctly.  There are some posts about recovering from a borked update.

You may be able to restore your backup but what is it?  Live-USB?  Just an iso copied over to usb?  Straight file copy to usb?  Really, it depends on a lot of stuff.
