Xiphos won't start
« on: February 05, 2010, 04:29:49 PM »
Hello, PCLOS people!

I recently did a "Mark all upgrades", and now my Xiphos Bible software won't start.

The error I'm getting in a dialog is this:

"An image file's size could not be determined. Is ImageMagick's 'identify' not installed?
(Or possibly the image is of type other than bmp/gif/jpg/png.)
Xiphos cannot resize images to fit window."

I have tried renaming the .xiphos directory, but that didn't help. The error is consistent.

I've run the command 'xiphos' from a terminal, and this is the output I get:

Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

(xiphos:5815): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_drawable_get_size: assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed

** (xiphos:5815): CRITICAL **: clearlooks_style_draw_box_gap: assertion `height >= -1' failed

SO... I'm stumped. I can't get the program to run... not even as root (the problem is the same).

Any thoughts?

I don't use this one, but do you have ImageMagick installed?

Which DE? KDE3/KDE4? Kernel?

Could you try re-installing ImageMagick?

Did you check for the identify executble?

Try running
Code: [Select]
identify --versionfrom a console.

This is my output when I do:
Quote
Version: ImageMagick 6.5.8-10 2010-01-05 Q16 http://www.imagemagick.org
Copyright: Copyright (C) 1999-2010 ImageMagick Studio LLC
Features: OpenMP

PastorEd, I have the very same problem. My system has checked for updates now for 2 weeks and still no solution. I have tried other 'nix forums but no help there either. Like you my problems began with an  large update a few weeks ago. Where is Solomon when he is needed?
BTW, I have uninstalled and re-installed both Xiphos and imagemagick without any change.

pags, my identify --version is exactly the same as yours.

rjmckee, it's nice to know I'm not alone.

It still doesn't WORK, mind you... :D but I'm not alone in it not working...

I have Xiphos working on several machines, but all had a newer kernel than yours. So I did an install of Mini (a remaster backup 4-20-09 with the 2.6.26.8.tex3 ) and did a "Mark all upgrades". I was then able to install and run Xiphos. I do get errors when opening from a terminal:
[earl@new ~]$ xiphos
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

** (xiphos:4631): CRITICAL **: clearlooks_style_draw_box_gap: assertion `height >= -1' failed

But it still runs. I know that is not exactly what you need to hear, but let me know if you want to compare anything on my setup to yours.
