2010 Upgrade Question
« on: February 27, 2010, 10:35:43 AM »
I read on the PCLOS Twitter page that the 2010 public beta is on the way soon, but I'm just wondering.... When the final release comes, will we be able to upgrade(from the beta version) via Synaptic, as we've previously done?

Why hello CheeseQueen452

I luv the name  ;D but in a word: NO! at least thats what they say in the discussion when 2010 comes out it will be in an iso you just have to do a fresh install

cause that would be much simpler me im looking for a much bigger hard drive so i can test drive it before I buy it lol

I am pretty sure that it will be a static install and not recommended upgrade ...though I could be wrong, sure Tex will be along and tell us whats up on the beta test

The beta is for users that like to get the arrows.

The final 2010 release is for the regular and new users.

Will the beta(s) be upgradeable?

I'm sure the official answer will be no, as it always was for the Test Releases in the past.

In practice, maybe, but the results aren't guaranteed.

If you have an existing pclos keep that as your main system. Install betas as a test in a spare partition if you have one.

The only people who might, with some justification, be tempted to use a beta for a main install are new users who can't wait for final and are prepared to take the risk on themselves. Even then they probably won't get any official support.

Read this, for a general overview of what's happening and what we expect. There will be more instructions when the public beta is released.

Thanx for the info. I guess that means we won't see a final release for at least a few more months :(
