Video and audio skipping like a rap song(SOLVED)

heres the the sitrep
VLC is color is off and no sound now the choice for audio device is greyed out
KAFFEINE and all xine based players won't work correctly either and so far i've run through the gambit

kplayer plays real slow and no sound

kmplayer same as above

xfmedia broken record

kaffeine same as xfmedia

xine ditto

gxine ditto

mplayer does not even start properly

I have tried smplayer and yes it works. Why it does I don't know because it is uses the mplayer as its executable

what other apps are you running?

have you played with compiz?

open konsole and write top, which one is the app that uses more cpu and how much?

any zombie app?

And my grandma is ice skating again. You know, without DE info., HW specs.... nobody can help. You should know this by now. And? What? What did you do? Listening online music, playing CD's, DVD's....geez man, put some more info. next time.

Have you checked to see how busy your CPU is while this is going on?

Also, if you have one of the system monitoring programs running full time and displaying its results on your desktop, have you checked to see how often it is updating. This can really mess up a computer with limited resources.

I was watching a movie via the Netflix on line system last night and could not figure out why I had these odd things happening with the sound on any movie I tried.

Later, I noticed that I had two instances of my router real time bandwidth monitor running in the background.

I shut them down and all was fine.

My HW info is listed at the bottom but of course thats just my opinion i could be wrong  .  When i was typing this my net seem to be acting laggy. and you are correct i should mention that I was testing all the vid and sound files from avi,mpeg,flv and my fav mp3

Yes i have checked my process cause I didn't mention in my earlier post that when i start kaffeine or xine it takes a little longer for the program to shut down and your suggestion about the some process in the  system might doing something with my net is spot!!!  Im going to start calling you  "House" so thank you House you rock

Im not sure how to find it but whats listed in synaptic is x11-driver-video-radeonhd

also i just did the top command and here are the results

OK just did that and whoa it made a huge diff in the xine players except for the kmplayer its a bit choppy while playing the .mkv files, and

while running  top I've notice my CPU for Mplayer 68% and level of to 54%  while kmplayer is at 1.3 % of course the format that is playing is .mkv  while but i only click on kmplayer is that normal suppose it is hmm learn something new

but mplayer won't even come on for any file and vlc is still behaving the same way

it sounds like you have a ati radeon hd2400 or more recent, that driver you are using won't work properly, it could be useful to install the ati driver from repos

some mkv are just weird, most times i have to use vlc to watch them, especially it it is hd content

OK thats the problem i tried to find something to that fact nothing came up including the aticonfig

and my VLC is still not behaving properly
