Install a printer through the parallel port
« on: February 24, 2010, 05:55:37 AM »
Hello everybody,

I'm trying to install a printer through the parallel port, but the option is disabled in the control center / peripherals / printers. How to enable the option? Or is there another way to do the installation?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum nilmarins.

Maybe a stupid question BUT what kind of printer is it? Brand and mark... Is it supported by Linux?

Have You tried using KMenu > System > Configuration > Configure Your Computer...

In there go to Hardware section and Click on Set Up Printer button. Follow the wizard and You should be able to setup a printer from there...

If in the hardware section there is no Set Up Printer button go to Synaptic Package Manager and install package called printerdrake.

After reboot this option should appear in PCC (PCLinuxOS Control Center).

Hope this helps

Andy

Just a Few Loonies for the issue from myne end:-

I procured a Parallel printer to USB Adapter Cable/Plug from off of eBay to adapt my HP All-In-1  t45xi (oldie) to the my system since the MOBO lacks a Port entirely for this type of connections.
