XFdrake is not cutting it: HIS RADEON 4670(SOLVED)
« on: February 20, 2010, 10:10:09 AM »
Hello

I having an issue. OK more then just one, But right now the main issue is I can not get to my GUI menu.  it work the first time after I had installed a new Video card H.I.S. Radeon 4670 and  before i tried to  update.

I had already searched the forum and found two possible solutions.  XFdrake and the etc/config file unfortunately either one not working.  I even tried  safe boot ran into same issue and my spalsh screen is gone

This what happens
When i boot up I get the  usual choices on a dual/boot computer.  when i select the Linux side I get the splashy screen then my choice of verbose mode.

Splashy screen is gone and its in verbose mode after which the screen flicks with garble colors going across the top portion of the monitor like usual

then I get the black X mouse cursor in the middle then immediately i get the CLI.  OK after logging in. Then i use the XFdrake  command it gives the samething I got last time when this happens i check to make sure it is vesa thats selected just like last time then this is the fun part i go to test

well i get the the black X mouse cursor again no screen colors at all and it just hangs there period I have to press the power button to shut it off

I know if this gets fix then everything should step into place atleast thats my hope

No dashing hope please :)

really do appreciate any advice

thank you

Hello

well O just tried the startx on cli boots me back to the CLI lines now Im thinking a reinstall is in my Future lol

Somebody has mention that when i Log on it says 2010 go figure

Thanks again

Now after doing some more reading and getting away from the Machine I just happen to read another post on LiveCD  and fsck command this one in particular fsck -f /dev/hda5 (Thanks old-polack)

and then i use the the utilities folders and got my video working on the LiveCD session but the sound is still an issue after I point it to the sound card and not Video card's HDMI  which seems to be the default

Now can I transfer these settings to the hard drive or am I going to have reinstall

so far this has taken me longer then expected and I cring everytime I use the winblows side cause if that goes thats it. thats all she wrote

Hello yall

I might have found a solution Since X won't start and i figured it had to do with the bad package thing earlier since then I read that having might have caused the broken package libpq8.4_5 and libpqxx

this thread

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,66965.0.html

and this thread almost mirrors mine except my video card is ATI not nvidia and the whole completely different computer

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,67082.0.html

as i can't simply copy and paste  would someone please check my work b4 i use these steps

ok first step (my synaptic is already on a different repo indianas)

apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

apt-get remove -D koffice

apt-get install dupeclean

apt-get clean && apt-get autoclean

dupeclean

apt-get install do-vesa

reboot

Hopefully this will resolve it thanks
