KDE4+TV Cards
« on: February 22, 2010, 02:31:26 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for a pretty solid TV card that can handle HD signals. We have DirectTV(Satellite). And I am now preparing to rebuild my old media rig I had hooked up to our older HD set.

But at that time it was running WinXP Home and using a plain old analog TV card. Is, anyone here using an HD/digital broadcast TV card with KDE4 and having any success with it?

*If this belongs in "Hardware", feel free to move it. I only placed it here as I am looking to try this with KDE4

I have been using a Hauppauge 1800 in one machine and a Hauppauge 1250 in another. Both have QAM. The 1800 has a separate analog and digital tuner. The 1250 is a hybrid ( one tuner for all bandwidths). I have only been using them for playback purposes through kaffeine, and they worked well once I found the area I was in to scan. As far as setting up a dvr box, having tried it as yet. the prices have come way down, and you can get the 1250 for around  $50.00 with remote.

Thanks Duvid,

I'm looking into that lineup of cards now. It really seems like they are the highest rated ones out of the Avermedia and ATI chipset ones.

Wow, Im a ATI fan and had good luck with my CaTV analog card. With the ATI550 chipset. But the more HD ready 660 and up based cards are really not being rated too well at all ???

Is there any chance you might can give a little insight on this thread as to how much you went through and what you did to get that Hauppauge set up as you wanted it? ;D For now I'll leave this thread open incase any other members wanna suggest more cards are add other tips to this topic.

There are different versions of the 1250 card, some do not have QAM This is the card I have: Buy.com. I have bought several items from there

  http://www.buy.com/prod/hauppauge-1187-wintv-hvr-1250-hybrid-tv-tuner-pci-express-x1-atsc/q/loc/101/206567437.html

The 1250 is a lower profile card than the 1800, and takes up less space in the case. Both have conexant chipsets
