drakbackup apparent failure
« on: February 21, 2010, 11:50:26 AM »
O.K.  I set my DrakBackup to automatically backup (after an initial backup) weekly.  This morning was the first time this happened.  The computer became unstable and would not reboot as user.

Logon as root allowed access to the gui tools.  Examination of the system logs showed that a backup was performed and an email was sent confirming the operation.  However, I cannot find the backup files in the place that the script defines.  I can see the backups that I did a few days ago manually, but not the new files.

Any help in getting my computer up and running again will be appreciated.

Maybe your home directory has "magically" become full. You could try doing a df to see.
But I don't think that's the problem...

Screwed even worse.  I cleared out the tmp directory, and now I can't boot into root.  going to the console and giving startx command causes a hang after the "disk" icon appears "

Hmmm... did the 'df' command and it shows that the root partition '/' is at 100%.

should I go into gparted and increase the size o f the root partition?

Probably.
Or you can remove some big files. You can use a livecd with kdirstat, and then you can easily see the large files.
But partitioning is also a good option, providing you have enough space ofcourse...

O.K.  I used gparted (on the partmagic disk) to grow the root partition.  Took 24 hours to complete all the operations, but problem solved.
