(SOLVED) Desktop cube change cap image?
« on: February 21, 2010, 07:24:47 AM »
The rotate cube image is the KDE logo.  is there an option to change this image to something more customized? Only thing I see is turning image on and off.

Funny, I nearly forgot that cube thing.... Can't even use it on my fully updated system. It will not install a package needed. (compiz-dekorater-kde).
So, that is one to wait for in the new release then for me (dependencies not in the repo)  ;D

two unrelated answers!

in kde control center/look and behavior/desktop/desktop effects you find the options for the cube but no mention on the image

doing a small search i found this

http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php/KDE4_desktop#Desktop_Cube

http://forums.pcpitstop.com/lofiversion/index.php/t165074.html

i can't confirm this because i use compiz with emerald so can't be sure but if two sites mention it, it is worth a try!

Thanks!:) specifically, the location for the cubecap image is at: /usr/share/apps/kwin/cubecap.png.

I assume you create a new image, give it the same name, and replace it in that directory. I'll give it a try!:)

create a image with similar details like size and type, make a backup of the original file and try the new one giving it the name of the original, in no place i found details about size or type of the image that could be used(other different, a jpeg)

the difference on the path is because pclinux didn't tried to give support for kde3 and kde4 simultaneously so we don't have a kde4 folder in there, no need for a extra level

Thanks for posting, that's all I needed to go into folder as root and put my own like size .png file in place and name it cubecap, just saved other as .old
simplicity is nice

mark,

reading this thread, i am assuming that you are referring to compiz and not the kde desktop effects. if so, you can actually point the cube caps to any image in any directory. what i am wondering is why you have no option to change it other than off/on. maybe you were looking at it on the desktop effects instead of compiz (CCSM)? if you are using compiz as well, you'd need to change the cube caps through ccsm (compiz fusion icon).

let us know, please.

"reading this thread, i am assuming that you are referring to compiz and not the kde desktop effects."

you didn't read it properly  ::)  or you haven't played extensively with compiz and kde4 effects

it is the cube in kde composite effects, that is what i answered and it was what the o p required
