Video settings

After installing pclinux my video screen is slightly off-center.
I no longer seem to be able to correct this using "xf86setup"
(it apparently is no-longer used by PcLinux).

I can get "vid-tune" to set the screen manually each time I boot.
How do I adjust the video settings permanently?

Installed with VESA my screen is off center, standard nv, the same,  nVidia propriarity driver and all's well again........

Thank you for the suggestions... However,
a) my monitor does not have an "auto" button,
b) the video card is a Via S3 Unichrome
c) I am using the PcLInux Unichrome driver

any other suggestions?

Adjust the refresh rate, within the allowed parameters of your monitor ........  increase it or decrease it a little .......

Have you installed the Linux drivers from the S3 Graphics web site jwzumwalt ?

If using KDE3 then right clicking on the Desktop, and selecting to edit the Desktop settings, and under the Display heading the refresh rate should be selectable.

I don't have the exact names of the choices sorry ....

Xwindows needs to fine tune the refresh settings. There use to be a config file that was used for this... xf86setup was the editor. I think the config file was named something like xf86.config or something like that. xf86setup worked until this version of PcLinux. I think KDE or xwindows has changed the config file

I have the same chipset. PCLinuxOS uses the openchrome driver.

To fix your display settings correctly, once and for all. Go to:

PCC>Hardware>setup graphics display - you will be asked to sign in as root.

There you may see if the openchrome graphics driver is being used. You can see if the resolution is in fact correct. Mine wasn't it but I changed it to 1280x1024 which is correct for my display.

You will be asked to log out when you have entered and accepted the new settings - do so.

You should not have any more trouble.

Jan, XF86 was replaced several years ago by Xorg by most distributions. Since then the config file is /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

But since PCC can handle almost any graphics configuration, you usually don't need to get into editing xorg.conf manually. Only in special cases (e.g. new Intel onboard graphics) does an option have to be added/modified manually.

OK! Thanks... this is sounding more like what I need. My monitor is shifted right 1/2inch... the resolution is correct. I'll let you know what I am able to do (fingers crossed).
