Which kernel should one run to utilise the new ext4 system.?

it was declared stable in version 2.6.28. You should be fine if you use a kernel with a version number greater or equal to that number. I would go for newer kernels if i was you.


ps:
your question has nothing to do with kde4 and shouldnt be in this section

Sorry if it in the wrong place, but since I am now in kde4 it seems to be the place to put it.
I have looked in 'synaptic' but there is no kernel 2.6.28.* I can only see 2.6.266.* and 2.6.27.* so where do I find 2.6.28.*? I have benn rsyncing from HEAnet and it has never bought down a 28.*- kernel AND I have not been able to get it from my local servers in Australia.
So question...Where did you  (or anyone one else )find it?

they are in the testing section of the repositories. 2010 will ship with the latest kernel and you can wait until then to check the file system out. You arent missing much and it could be more trouble than its worth changing the kernel just to check it out

hi, muungwana.
I have enabled the testing section and got the 2.6.32.* kernel. A.lthough a lot of stuff cannot be installed, I can now read the disks that Mandriva 2010 produced, formatted as ext4.
That is good. The box I am doing this on is for testing, so little problems do not matter, I can transfer from the ext4 to the ext3 drives.
