I don't know, but could it be that OOO performs faster with Intel processors than AMD? I've used it in two PCs with more or less the same specs except than one had Sempron and the other Celeron and in the last one it opened much faster, even cold starts.
Mine's AMD, using the tip here results in OOo opening in around 5 seconds cold on my machine, and less than ½ second second or subsequent time.

LibreOffice 3.4 does not have the Quickstarter option. Hmmmm...

Quickstarter option while 3.4.0 on my fully updated PCLOS KDE4 doesn't show it. Some Linux / KDE issue maybe?
