File association problem with audacity and mp3. (Solved)
« on: February 16, 2010, 06:33:24 PM »
I've just removed Amarok as it was crashing my system (reported elsewhere), and installed Kaffeine and Realplayer.  I have also already installed audacity as I have an LP>CD project underway.  Now audacity wants to take over, clicking on an mp3 files opens it in audacity.  I've been into file associations and tried to move Kaffeine and Mplayer above audacity for mp3, and even deleted audacity altogether, but when I try to apply this new regime it reverts to the old one with audacity at the top - even if I've deleted it.  The same thing happens with .wav , but does not seem to happen with .ogg, but that's not much use!

I have earlier used file associations to change them for other things without any problems.

How does one become a hero?  By asking a lot of dumb questions apparently! I have three computers of various ages, the most powerful is a Dell Netbook 10v; each has 2 or 3 versions of PCLOS of various vintages.  Location, St John's, Newfoundland.

Hi Howard.

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,65090.0.html

Double click on the video to open it on the youtube site and then You can watch it full screen...

In KDE4 general idea is exactly the same:

a. Right click on the file
b. Choose properties
c. New window pops up
d. Click on the tool icon
e. Another window will pop up
f. On the general tab change the application preference order (move applications up and down) the top one is the default one
g. OK x 2 to close the popups (wait for updating system settings to finish)
h. Your file should open in the application You have chosen...

Hope this helps.

Andy

Thanks AndrzejL , that works - once I had found the tools button in the properties window.  I wonder why the version accessed from the desktop configurer didn't.  Maybe that is fixed in KDE4.4 too.
