Boot to"Setting hostname local host:
« on: February 16, 2010, 11:13:43 AM »
I couldn't get the live cd to boot on an old gatewayE-3400
so I used a Dell 270 to installLXKE on the hard drive
after numerous tries I realized that I was getting a configuration
for the dell p4 and the gate way p3 didn't like it
any how I've managed to get to to line in the subject setting
hostname local host on the gateway  through all this the bios
in the gate way doesn't seem to work to the extent that I can't
get it to boot from installed cd or from an external.cd

So is there anything I can do from here to remedy the situation I've logged in as root and can enter comands I
went through the tutorial in PClin Mag didn't help

Some BIOS do not support booting from an external device(s). I know there is a way to install over the net, though I have never done this. Perhaps a search of the forum for a "poorman's install" might turn up information.

after days of trying  I finally got a message no ROM in the bios?
and that's as far as she goes. Originally I could boot from the CD driver
then it would boot almost any destroy but any PCLINOS. The installing on the Dell and moving the HDD to the gateway ultimately done it in.
