FGLRX 9.3 doesn't work
« on: February 14, 2010, 08:26:51 AM »
Hello,

I have an issue. First I tried to install the driver from the repositories  but that didn't work. So I had the idea to download the driver from the official ATi homepage. After I installed the driver i saw following problem:

Any ideas how to fix this problem? I have a Radeon 9500 Pro AGP video card and the kernel version is 2.6.26.8.tex4. I am using the Phoenix Edition (Xfce). I will post my xorg.conf later.

Have you done any additional config after install?

It seems like I usually have to boot to a console login (add the number 3 to the end of your grub boot options), and then do some additional config..  when logged in as root at a console promt, try the following commands with and reboot:

Code: [Select]
aticonfig –initial  -f
video

when video is run you will get the command line version of the video config tool found in PCC..  select the ati-fglrx driver  and reply ‘Yes’ when asked to use the proprietary driver.  If all goes well you should be able to reboot with working graphics

..if all else fails the install process should have added a fglrx-uninstall.sh script that will return your install to its previous state;  I don't recall exactly where it gets installed to, but you should be able to fine it using the locate or find commands.

It doesn't work. Hmm thanks for your help. I asked in many boards and nobody knew how to fix this problem. I will wait for the next PCLinuxOS (Xfce) or Sam Linux release. This thread can be closed.

We dropped fglrx support for those old ATI cards a while back because the driver does not seem to work with updated xorg servers. Only new ATI cards are supported with the 10.1 fglrx driver. All others will need to use ati or radeon xorg drivers.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.
