(SOLVED! Thank you) Sound issue
« on: February 13, 2010, 05:34:17 PM »
I sometimes lose sound on certain apps. This has happened several times. I'm not sure how it happens. I can't seem to recreate it.  I thought perhaps it happened after previewing a sound file or video in dolphin. but that's not it. for some reason, the sound just stops.

Is there anyway to restart the sound on the fy? I tried doing a test in control panel (computer Administration>multimedia), but that's not helping.

Which "certain apps"?  Watching a Flash video on Firefox sometimes disables my email notification. Do you lose sound entirely?  I have a touchpad on my netbook, and if my pointer is hovering over my speaker in the taskbar, I sometimes mute it while typing. As for on the fly soundstart, alt+F2 and enter alsamixer, I think that's what does it. If not alsamixer, some other command.

I'm still on kde3.5, so I don't know what conflicts previewing in dolphin might produce.

Please be aware of the noob portion of my name. Any suggestions I have are from a sincere desire to help, but my lack of knowledge might make them ineffectual. Since no one else is jumping in, I wanted to respond, just so you don't feel stranded. Good luck. (friendly smile)
Fair warning: I am a whiny, selfish brat who should be denied access to 2010, per a moderator. Box: Acer Aspire One 110-xxxx model. XP wiped (and flushed), 2010 gnome (despite mod) grafted onto 8g flash HD via livecd.

Press [ALT] + [F2] combo on the keyboard and when Run Command window will pop up type in

Code: [Select]
kdesu -c "service alsa force-restart"
then press enter. Type in roots password when asked for it and press [ENTER]. Sound system restarted.

When asked about - Do You want to forget the audio device click NO.

Hope this helps.
