New Problem

Talk about solve one problem and create another.  I followed the suggestions here:

which subsequently led me here:

The suggestions did solve the problem of the slowdown but now when I try to put back the shortcut in startup in Configure your Desktop it says that the desktop shortcut is not there.  But it is!  Why can't it see it?
