pinacle DVC100 on skype
« on: February 11, 2010, 09:21:19 PM »
This device works fine on WXcam and shows a record button.
It is on a single core AMD 2800 with PClinuxOS2009.
Skype will not show anything if i click the test button and the test button just stays there.
The skype static download responded by the test screen disappearing totally to the surrounding background. The Beta just stayed as it was before i clicked the test button. The input is from a quad processor normally seen on CCTV systems. If i can get it going i can use any old camera as a webcam....
I am also investigating a CD burner problem and may take the covers off ind pull the plug on that, however it was in place when i installed and has never worked apart from reading disks sometimes. Is this significant?
New to linux, Refugee from windows!
Any clues?
 ???

I am really confused .........

You have a USB connected video capture device .....  Pinnacle DVC100

After that I am lost ........

Is it recognised in PCC - Hardware?
What kernel are you running -- I believe the driver for this unit is included with later kernels

what input to the device are you using?
can you see that input using any applications?  Does wxCam display the input to the Pinnacle?

Is the problem only that the input to the Pinnacle is not displaying in Skype?

...  as I said ..... confused ... maybe a little more info or explanation?

The DVC100 is detected and shows in TVtime and wxcam (installed with synaptic).
I am using a 4 camera box with its own hard drive of the type that is commonly used in CCTV systems. If i see anything funny on my webcam i can go back and send it to a home video out take show where they some times give you a prize using wxcam.
All of the above is working.

KDE shows 3.5.10
And 2.6.26.8.tex3

The setup screen in Skype shows DVC90/DVC100 then refuses to show the image in the test screen when it is clicked. On the skype static version the test screen and button disappear to leave the area the same color as the surrounding box and on the other version it does nothing and remains there as if it has not been clicked.
Both installed with synaptic.
It looks like a skype problem.
Once i have finished recovering files from my other windows machine i will have another desktop unit to test it on after with a clean install without dual boot.  Two bad viruses in a month. Good by windows!

IIRC Skype does not now display the pics from a V4l device but will for a V4l2 ........ I wonder if that is the problem?

You should be able to check your device .......  or even use the choices in wxCam to see which it works with.

I am not certain the above is what happens to everyone, but it did happen here so I got a newer camera.

I will have to do some research on that. Perhaps a firmware upgrade for the device...
