Preparing for 2010
« on: February 11, 2010, 03:17:15 PM »
Hello Everyone: in trying to get prepared for the 2010 version and a brand new install from kde3 to kde4, can someone point me to the steps for saving and then re-installing my email folders from thunderbird. I did this once a year or so ago, and I remember there was some issue with re-naming something, but I don't remember the sequence. I know i need to save the .thunderbird folder and I have 3 email accounts there, but I can't find my notes on how to replace the folder in kde4. Do I set up thunderbird first and then install the files or install the files first?  thanks for any help.

ff103,

if you just restore your .thunderbird folder before running Thunderbird you should be okay.

I always did it the same way whenever reinstalling or recreating my user account after having issues and it never failed me.

Thank you tschommer, that does help, there is a post somewhere, or was one, that spelled it out, but I will copy and save the folder and give that a try. thanks. Just so I and anyone else are clear, should I copy the "contents" of kde3 .thunderbird and paste it into the new kde4 .thunderbird or copy the entire folder and overwrite the new .thunderbird ?

If I may piggyback a related question on this thread:

I have Thunderbird on the old W.98SE pc.
When 2010 is on the new pc then I will transfer.
Some searching has come up with what to copy but there is no specific mention of W -> Linux.
Can anyone elaborate on what to copy and where it goes?

You can also copy ~/.mozilla to get your firefox settings saved. I use the pan newsreader and this technique works for that app as well.
Just copy the folders back to your new home folder before starting the app and you're set to go.
