Avidemux and h.264 SVC MP4
« on: February 10, 2010, 05:51:16 PM »
So I've been converting my home videos and messing around with different Linux video editors now for a while. I finally found the right combination of tools to do what I wanted and then I did it..... I updated via Synaptic and the next thing I know Avidemux-GTK2 no longer has the video codec I was using. H.264 SVC MPEG4. I'm running PCLOS v2009.2 (updated to the latest releases obviously)
So, my question is this: Is there someone specific that worked with updating that package that I can request they add back the codec I need?
I know I can go download the latest and compile H.264 into it, but I'm really trying to avoid that mess and don't like going outside the repos for things. Especially with 2010 about to come out. If you know specifically who I should address this to, please let me know. Thanks.

wait, the version we have in repos is 2.5.2 and currently avidemux is at 2.6

also i remember a problem with the h.264 but can't remember which one

the 2009 repos are frozen but 2010 could already have the 2.6 version

about the update you mention, when did you updated?  i don't have updates available since last year maybe?

I just updated a few weeks ago. 2.51 had it. 2.52 doesn't.

If you go here;

http://kde3.pclosusers.com/pclosfiles/pclinuxos/2007/RPMS.main/

you will see that the packages;

avidemux-2.5.1-3pclos2009.i586.rpm
avidemux-cli-2.5.1-3pclos2009.i586.rpm
avidemux-gtk-2.5.1-3pclos2009.i586.rpm
avidemux-i10n-2.5.1-3pclos2009.i586.rpm
avidemux-qt-2.5.1-3pclos2009.i586.rpm

still exist there. To use this repo, add it to your /etc/apt/sources.list, as per these instructions;

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,65202.0.html

Select that repo as the active one in Synaptic, click the Reload link, then force the installation. You may have to first uninstall the current version, then install the older one. As the 2007/2009 repo will no longer be updated, you shouldn't need to do anymore upgrades after this, until you install the new 2010 release. If you do choose to upgrade something, for whatever reason, first pin avidemux.
