ISA Hardware Modem Not Detected

I am trying to set up a dial up connection in the newest version of MiniMe. KPPP is not detecting any of three modems I have tried to use. All of the modems are USR 56k ISA hardware modems which are set to use COM 2. I have disabled COM 2 in the BIOS settings. These modems were successfully detected with various Mandriva (Mandrake) distributions. Any help would be appreciated.

isa hardware could have problems with the kernel we use(pclinux is for not that old hardware) but this is just speculation from my part

most users will tell you that dial up modems will only work properly in linux if they are external connected to the serial port of your system

you can get faster, cheaper, more stable and easy to use internet connections with other technologies like the 3G modems or wifi/ethernet

       Are these using internal isa slots? Or are they external serial modems using a serial port?

They are internal modems using an ISA slot. Unfortunately, I have to set this pc up to use dialup access so my options are limited.

Can you identify the driver/module that is being used when they work in Mandy?

It is likely that all is needed is to launch the correct driver .....  that is all that used to be required when I last used such a modem card ......  quite some time ago ......

They are internal modems using an ISA slot. Unfortunately, I have to set this pc up to use dialup access so my options are limited.

To start with, you need to run pnpdump to locate the ISA cards, and create/setup an /etc/isapnp.conf file. It's been a long time since I set one of these up; no ISA slots anymore. I would suggest opening Konqueror, clicking on the X in front of the Location: bar, to clear it, then typing man:isapnp in the bar. Read that page, then click the links at the bottom for pnpdump and isapnp.conf.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I read thru the documentation on pnpdump, etc. and it would seem to relate more to PnP ISA cards. These modems have jumpers so I am able to set the Com port and IRQ manually.

so it is not pnp, if it has jumpers it could be easier to set but if it worked in mandriva the jumpers should be working properly

what i mentioned about the legacy kernel could be the problem, pclinux is friendly with older hardware but not that older afik
