Mounting data mp3 dvd's
« on: February 10, 2010, 07:07:05 AM »
I have another query in that any data dvd containing mp3 files are not recognized in pcmanfm or any audio program whereas data cd's I have no problem with. However this is not always the case as sometimes the discs do show up so I know it has the capability. The same rule applies in Gnome.
Any ideas appreciated?

Do you have libdvdcss installed? Search in synaptic for mp3 and see if you have everything needed to run these.

As far as I can tell, everything is installed inc' libdvdcss. It just doesn't detect the discs on most occasions.

libdvdcss2 will have nothing to do with it, is only required for encrypted (commerical) dvds. Perhaps the disc is not a good burn, and it simply has trouble reading it at times? Or perhaps your drive is having trouble reading? Have you run a cleaner disc thru your dvd drive at all? To clean out the dust, etc?

Fair point but Puppy Linux, Windows XP and 7 seem to read the disc ok.

Yes on the same machine.
This problem is common to LXDE and Gnome.

I just discovered that if I reinstall hal from Synaptic then the mp3 dvd's mount ok but I have to do this each session.
Does that hold any further clues?

Sorry, been busy. No, it doesn't really make sense to be honest. It should NOT need re-installing every session. That's just ... odd. I'm sorry, but I'll have to leave this and hope that someone more experienced might have some useful data for you, as I'm not familiar enough with this issue, even when using Gnome (which is 90% of the time), I don't have these issues, so have no idea where to start resolving them. Sorry.
