skype - microphone not working (Solved!)
« on: February 10, 2010, 02:32:54 AM »
I have a logitech USB microphone  using a Compaq laptop with AMD Turion 64 with nvidia sound. I have no sound input on the microphone.

I've been following a thread http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?topic=68031.0  which in many ways is beyond me.

However I did comment the blacklist as per old-polack's suggestion, and now get noise, a kind of buzzing.  I take this as progress as previously there was nothing.  Since commenting those audio items I can see the mic in kmix and Skype.

Any further help greatly appreciated.  Said mic works in Windows but I hate booting to there just cos can't get it working in Pclos!

Thanks

silverbirch,  Did you consider trying the 2.6.27.31.tex5 kernel?

um - no I think I have 2.6.26 something  ... can't quite read in gkrellm and can't remember command as don't use cli much.  What little I learned when I had to a few years ago when first using Linux I've lost 'cos Pclos is so easy, and works!

OK I see that kernel is in the repos.  Do I just install it as in any other package?

Thanks

After Synaptic install - restart linux and choose the new kernel from startup menu.
New kernel will take a while to start first time - use <ESC> to verbose and watch what goes on.
You might like to set default boot in Administration Center later also.
Hope this solves your audio woes.

PS. the cli command you were after is  uname -a

ok thanks heaps for this - too late now as need to get to bed, but will try tomorrow.

Thanks also for the command.  I have a book somewhere of commands, but Pclos has made me lazy!  Its too good and easy!

Go Pclos!!  Thanks again, will post progress.

Thanks - I downloaded the new kernel and it gave me several options in the Skype selections for audio device.  I only needed to try two before I struck gold!

Just in case it helps anyone else I selected:
AK5370 USB Audio default (default:CARD=default)

Thanks so much for your help guys!  Really appreciated!
