PCLOS re-Install to cure problems?
« on: February 09, 2010, 09:18:51 AM »
Had PCLOS 2007 working for over a year.  No problems (Some drivers unavail.,tho)
Somehow upgraded to 2009

A few little problems have grown to be unbearable:
Flickering display = Have reinstalled driver a dozen times - Still flickers
System "blacks out" and hiccups about every 3 minutes - It's not network.  Vid driver???
SMB Shares permissions are unstable - Have to correct them at every boot
Printer appears and disappears

All this started with 2009

So... Thought I'd do a full clean install - Have all user data on another partition, so I can easily reinstall without too much impact, However....

Make LiveCD will just burn a suspect config to CD

Does any9one have a suggestion to  either re-scan all hardware and network elements. OR
how can I do a full clean install?

TIA
gg

That you "somehow upgraded to 2009" may be the problem. There is a special way to do this in stages, otherwise some upgrades wouldn't take and you had a borked system. Search the forum for this thread. Are you fully upgraded according to Synaptic? If you need to reinstall you should download the 2009.2 .iso, burn it to a CD and reinstall. Just don't let it format your /home partition. Then, you will still have to upgrade, as many packages are out of date from that release. In a few weeks 2010 .iso will be released. I understand that will also need a fresh install because so many basic system packages are new. I suggest you regularly read the forums to keep up with what's going on with PCLOS. That way you avoid problems.
Using Linux for over 18 years and still counting.
