can't open PCC Administration Center (drakconf)
« on: February 09, 2010, 08:02:07 AM »
hi I'm new and just updated from kde 3.5 to kde 4.3.1 , and after that i can't open the Administration Center, the icon is in the taskbar but when i click on it it won't open.
Otherwise the system seems to work fine, i had before some broken packages during the update to kde 4 and fixed using dupeclean, as i read in the forun. After all updatesd were done i just couldn't open Administration Center,  think happens there.
Have somebody any idea how to fix it?

thank a lot in advance

hola amigo,

if you use the Search function you will find some threads on this topic.
Some users have problems at the moment with the control center.
We hope that the problem is solved with KDE4.4 the new release

Drakconf is a gtk application. The version of KDE being used shouldn't make any difference, right?

There is an unsolved thread that talks about this problem, some people have this problem and others dont and i think it largely has to do what packages are installed/not installed on a user computer

pcc hangs here when i click an icon to start it but it doesnt when started from the terminal. Open the terminal and type "pcc" and press enter and see if it will work
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

What version of libwebkitgtk do you have?  I have libwebkitgtk1.0_2-1.1.17-1pclos2010 and it works fine here..  ..IIRC there was an issue with this discussed on the developers mailing list awhile back...

I'm not sure, but the solution might have been to force an upgrade/dowgrade of the package..  I'll do some searching and see if I can find it.

Edit, I did find this:

Quote
When using libwebkit-1.0.so.2.11.1 pcc seems to work ok.

Also libwebkit-1.0.so.2.12.0 seems to work after installing
libdirectfb0.9_25-0.9.25.1-3pclos2007.i586.rpm.

hi, is there not possible to have an scan of the system files to checkout all dependencies and correct possible wrong ones?  i mean after a big download could be helpful.

Try running apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade in console as root and post any error output.

apt / rpm maintains a database of all the installed files and normally handles these problems automatically, but sometimes problems due to undeclared package dependencies arise, and if apt / rpm are not aware of a requirement or conflict, they cannot adequately deal with it...  the problem you are having has shown its head intermittently for a small number of users and has been very difficult to troubleshoot.  For for many the solution was changing the version of libwebkitgtk, but the version needed seems to vary.

If that doesn't show anything, you could try the suggesion in the last post here:

Great!

Please edit your first post and add (SOLVED) to the beginning of the Subject.

Also, please be aware that the 2010 release is getting very near, and Tex has stated that a complete re-install will be required.

hi, my friends after trying all the measures that were proposed and  concluding without results i decided to format the partition and reinstall the system again. I will keep KDE 3.5 until the new version 4.4 shows stability .
