Back on 3.5 I used to NEVER have any trouble setting up shares on my server. But, in 4 I cannot get the drive sharing under PCC to "retain" a username.
Method I always/trying to use:
1- Open PCC
2- Go to Local Drives & click "Share hard disk partitions"
3- Select "Allow All users"
...Ok, I gotta add this in. I never came across a prompt where its asking me to setup the samba server. Only in KDE4 have I encountered this. So, Im assuming its a NEW thing? Well, I pretty much dont configure anything in it except selecting, "standalone service". I never came across it before in 3.5. So, being unsure what to do. I just wont fiddle with it much.
4- Still in PCC. Go to Network Sharing
5- Click "share drives & directories with SMB systems
6- Go under Samba users tab and click ADD
7- I always just use the default entries. Nobody & my login username
I only use the default entries because other than me transferring files to my home folder under my username. The nobody one is only for streaming media to a windows pc and to my own linux pc. I just like this method. It was simple for me.
8- Click File Shares tab & Click ADD
9- Setup the desired directories to share over the LAN
Well, this is the method I've always used. But, I went over all this as I would like some ideas over what might be being done wrong. As, I cant seem to get the Nobody & Username entries to STAY in the Samba users list. Everytime I add these entries and then go to set them to a desired share. I get an error saying "create this user". Then when I go back under the samba user tab. The entries are gone!
Its pretty frustrating and Im wondering what may be the cause and what options I have to rectify this.
