KDE Init could not launch error
« on: February 07, 2010, 08:38:49 AM »
I am running PCLOS with KDE 3.5 on my laptop.
Have noticed errors after system boots up to desktop.
Am receiving " KDE Init could not launch "------- " error message.
It just started within a couple of weeks. It doesn't matter which application I try to launch, I get that error.
Have tried updating and still the error persists. It doesn't happen all the time, just occassoinaly.
I have to shut down via power button and re-boot, sometimes 2-3 times before the KDE comes up and no errors when launching any application.

Any ideas as to what is going on ?
Have plenty of space left on Home partition and others.

Thanks

Updating your pc while using kde 3.5 is not recommended. Kde 3 is not supported anymore, and I thought updating your system while using kde 3 could break it. I would switch to kde4. I bet the problems are because of a update...

Damn shame that KDE 3 is not being supported. I thought PCLOS is still supporting KDE 3.5 because they have not yet come out with a Live CD KDE 4.xx.

Well anyway, I re-installed PCLOS and I have updated it and have not had the problem come back ( fingers crossed ). I've got PCLOS with KDE 3.5 installed on my other laptop and desktop, but have not seen that problem on them.

If I see this problem continuing, I won't upgrade to KDE 4.xx until it really is stable with the other applications. In that case, I'll run XFCE desktop.
