Locking Widgets
« on: February 07, 2010, 07:58:43 AM »
I've been playing with a variety widgets on my desktops. I really like and enjoy this new desktop approach. It allows the user to customize each individual desktop so that different tasks can be handled.

However, there is one thing I would like to see modified.  Locking Widgets. When widgets are locked, I can no longer drag and drop files and application icons (as plasmoids) to the desktop. Doing so when widgets are locked, at times, but not always, appears to cause a crash in Dolphin.

Over and over, I tried dragging and dropping to the desktop only to be denied the action. It was frustrating.  I simply forgot that I had the widgets locked.  All of a sudden, the light bulb went on!  I found myself slapping my forehead and exclaiming, "D'oh! unlock the widgets! Then you can drag and drop items to the desktop!"

Perhaps there should be an option where widgets can be locked but still allow the user to add plasmoids (for shortcuts to applications and files) to the desktop.
Toonfully,

Mark

Is there some reason the widgets should be locked?

I have never locked mine ........

That way you get rid of the cashew on the panel.... (I just wait for an "i HATE the cashew" widget that removes it from the panel too.)

my desktop is always locked and i only unlock it when i want to add, remove or move around plasmoids. i Think the desktop is meant to be used while locked but most screenshots i have seen online have the desktop unlocked.

One reason why i lock mine is to remove the popup bar that shows up when mousing over a plasmoid. This should be enough of a reason to lock the desktop
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..
