pclos freezes
« on: February 05, 2010, 08:44:01 PM »
Whenever I open the control center, the the box greys out (of the control center logo) and never opens. I have tried this in both root and regular mode and always the same result. Anyone have any idea?

Thanks!

KDE 3 or KDE 4?

By "control center", do you mean the KDE Control Center ("Configure Your Desktop") or the PCLinuxOS Control Center ("Configure Your Computer")?

Hm, I believe it is KDE 3? Not sure...I have all the latest updates in the repos though (and yes I did reload).

By control center I mean the one for my computer. From their I can (usually) adjust my hardware and such. I have been getting some random freezing as well which I think is related. But it always freezes when I open the control center so I don't think its memory related etc.

Addendum: I checked the KDE version and it was 3.5.10.

try opening a terminal window and type in

pcc

copy and paste any errors that is shown.

By any chance did this "freezing" start happening after you last updated your system?   Since you are using KDE3 are you using the frozen repository for it?  It's url starts with kde3.pclosusers.com?

Hi,

I did not switch repositories thus I still think I am on the main one. Should it update to kde 4 automatically?

I found the previous post on the subject but doing the upgrades didn't fix it for me....i did try other repos.

Any help would be really appreciated, I head back to grad school tomorrow and would really like to fix this for my dad before I go. Thanks!

No updating to kde4 is not automatic!  One must go into synaptic and remove the section of KDE and add KDE4.   Right now going to KDE4 isn't going to change the error of Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

As Texstar said in another post that this is an Xorg issue that will be corrected when the new 2010.iso is released.  As for your other issue, have you tried reinstalling the drakconf program?
