What repositary settings should I have ?

If I want to have the latest except stick with KDE 3.5 what should my repositary settings be ?
They currently are set as below, which confuses me since yes I started with 2007 and have only used synaptics to update, but with help from other postings I believe my system is allegedly 2010?

your system is 2009 ... and there won't be an upgrade path to 2010 as I understand it.. so you need to start backing up all your personal data and gear up for a new install

Backing personal data is always a good idea.  Now before you make the leap to 2010 or KDE4, make sure that your personal programs are available for those things.   My own personal problem in the GREAT LEAP FORWARD is KMyMoney.  It's not available yet, so I'm still with KDE3.5.10 until it is made ready for 2010 and KDE4. 

There is a repository which is devoted to those of us staying with KDE3:

rpm http://kde3.pclosusers.com/pclosfiles/ pclinuxos/2007 main extra nonfree kde gnome

Put this line in your /etc/apt/sources.list and use it as your repo.

Wayne1932 - FWIW there is a beta out for kmymoney for KDE4.  You might give it a try.

Thanks! ! ! Yup, I'm aware of the 3.95 version.  BUT ! ! ! !  the beta version must be compiled, etc, etc, and I'm not that much into that kind of thing.  It might be simple enough, I have done it a couple of times, but  at this time all is working so well, I'll just hold off until it is released as an rpm by PCLOS and the ripper gang.  That is unless I get a serious breakage on something else.

2.  Not sure about this one, because my vlc is working OK.

to answer your questions

No No No. It is a frozen repository. Since there is no work being done on KDE3 there are no new updates or security updates. As for VLC issues. Since you have made updates to your system with other repositories it may not be able to fix the problem.  The same for the display ":0.0" Xorg issue.
You might try reinstalling the vlc from the frozen repository. It may or may not work.  Doing this may screw you even worse that you are already. DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I know what it says ...but its still only 2009 version ...even my own says 2010 and going by what Texstar said, that there will not be an upgrade path for the NEW 2010 ...just not possible to maintain two sets of repositories

The answer to #2 and #3 are because they updated their system using the normal repositories. In the move towards KDE4 these 2 issues occurred. It was mentioned back in Nov, early Dec that if you were staying with KDE3 that you shouldn't update your system or it might break it. There was a repository frozen by myself for those wanting to stay with KDE3 at that time (kde3.pclosusers.com)  There are no new updates or security fixes.

yup I just kept going to synaptic and said reload and mark all updates

Unfortunately that was not mentioned via the synaptics interface (that I noticed) !

I did not frequent these forums until I started finding problems recently which I now understand is because I managed to drive my articulated lorry down a narrow gorge and now I think I am being told there is a landslide behind so I'm stuck.

If I find a 2009.x LiveCD and change synaptic to point to the KDE3.5 frozen repo mentioned, is that likely to get me back to where I was before it started going awry?

I suspect that you would be OK.  Not a certainty, but is anything in today's world?

I'm using YCT's repo, and started only a couple of months ago.  I was out of commision a large part of last year (surgery, recovery etc etc) so my system is probably a hybrid,even though the cat command shows me to be 2010.  Since there aren't any programs that I know of that I might need, I'm kinda frozen in time.  One of these days, when 2010 livecd is released, I'll probably go for a reinstall.  Until then, I'm just using my system.

There is no way to do that via Synaptic that I am aware of.

Yes it should get you to that point again.  You can find a 2009.x iso at the following url

It is the very first one of the listing.

EDIT: if you do go this route make sure that before you do any updates that you add the following to yout /etc/apt/sources.list file

rpm http://kde3.pclosusers.com/pclosfiles/  pclinuxos/2007 main extra nonfree kde gnome
Put this line in your /etc/apt/sources.list and use it as your repo.  

Make sure that this is THE ONLY repo selected or you will just end back up where you were to begin with. A messed up system.
