Compositing

Is anyone out there using this feature and what exactly for? I'm curious because I started reading a tutorial and I just can't imagine masses of users. But then again I might be missing something.

it all depends on which desktop environment you are using .... each environment has it's own features ...

Hmmm...Sproggy, your comment doesn't enlighten me very much. Can you elaborate a bit more and give me some simple example(s). Thanks.

One question: if I remove Compositing from Synaptic, will it affect my system? Although I've disabled it several times in Desktop Effects it keeps enabling itself.  From what I've read I can't see using it myself on this machine.

Impatient me, gone ahead and removed Compositing from Synaptic. Some effects have gone but wow the system has gained speed never experienced before. Everything responds like a flash.  ;D
