Solved - Help needed to get Mobile Broadband Working.
« on: February 01, 2010, 03:29:40 AM »
Need to get a mobile broadband dongle from T-Mobile (Huawei E1630) working on PCLOS 2009.2. Tried the instructions from here:

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,65468.0.html

Which relate to the Huawei E220 with no success.

Can anyone provide detailed instructions to get the E1630 working?

Resolved. Installed 2010 Beta 1, recognised dongle and auto-configured 3G access ;D

So, it worked with Beat 1, but not Beta 2? Or were youtrying something else?
There is no shame in saying "I don't know".

According to their map, sakis does not work in the US.  I haven't confirmed it yet, but if this is true it is not usable for me :'(

well... i can't confirm that... but i'm not an expert...
i believe, unless "protocols"  are different, it should work everywhere...

You can add your own operator's details, see

gseaman,

how far do you get?
did you install all the software needed?
did you install the script?

do you know the apn for your operator? do you need a pin, a user name, a password?
what's your modem?

ppp and sharutils are installed. 9menu and xosd are not in the repos and do not appear to be necessary. When I run the script, it asks for a root password, then doesn't recognize the modem, but allows me to choose it, then errors that it can't find the device.

I have an option 3g using AT&T's wireless (formerly Cingular). The apn is isp.cingular, the login is isp@cingulargprs.com, password is cingular1. (The password is the same for everyone and there is no PIN).

It used to work with kppp until kernel upgrades about 3-4 months ago. (Still does, if I use the 2009.2 Livecd and build the module, etc.)

i believe you need to install  usb_modeswitch, wvdial and libusb...
after installation check if your modem is recognized.
