kicking it in the boot arrrrggg
« on: January 31, 2010, 06:21:21 PM »
message: booting has failed.
yea id like to kick this acer one in the boot ill tell ya. but besides that im havin fun here on the farm, smokin some meat in the smoker and tweakin my lil acer all at the same time
ok on to the gritty. i was making the simple tweeks that we linuxer's like to do to our machines like verbose boot, installing the newest kernel, tweaking the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, getting glxgears to work (thank you forum) etc. etc. i had just changed the default boot to the newest kernel and decided to modify the xorg.conf file while i was at it. i just so  happened to be using a usb stick that had my tweeks file on it for some quick copy paste stuff. finished with that and went for a reboot and the following error occured. the only thing i can think of that comes to mind is that i forgot to remove the usb stick when rebooting as i have heard of problems booting because of this with the acer one. here is the error message at the end:

mounting root filesystem
ufs: cant find ext3 filesystem on dev/sda5
mount: error mounting /dev/root/ on sysroot as ext3 invalid argument
setting up other filesystems
setuproot: moving dev/ failed no such file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /proc: no such file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /sys: no such file or directory
switching to new root and running init
switchroot: /dev does not exist in new root
booting has failed

oh and i was/am also enjoying some of my home brewed cream stout beer so who knows :P
i dont really want to reinstall because its just to easy and you dont learn from doing things the easy way.
