I came across a posting on the Mandriva forum. It was said that speed - especially app launching speed - could be increase by turning off app debugging information:
In terminal, type 'kdebugdialog' and enter. In the new window, deselect all checkboxes.
I claim no detailed knowledge of what this does (it does seems self-explanatory, though I could be wrong), or if there might be any side-effects. So far, I haven't seen any... as for speed increase, I detect a slight improvement.
Caveat: This appears to be for the session only, i.e. it shall have to be done for each login. I would like to know if anyone knows have to make this a permanent change.
If it is what I suspect it is, maybe Tex could somehow make this an optional, as opposed to the default state of affairs....?
As I said, I know next to nothing about this, but thought I would share it. Maybe someone wiser in the ways of KDE4 can shed some light over whether this is a sensible course of action?
Cheers!
CJ
EDIT: Actually, it seems to persist after a reboot also, so with me - for now - it seems permanent once done. Happy days!
