Synaptic Not Getting Updates
« on: January 28, 2010, 04:30:08 PM »
I have 3 (I suspect interrelated) issues.

1. Synaptic has not offered me any new updates since January 8th. I have reloaded from a number of repositories, but no new updates are offered.

2. The last time Synaptic found updates for my system it offered:
libical0 upgrade from 0.43-2pclos2009 to 0.43-3pclos2010 but wants to uninstall almost all of KDE4
libxcb-util-devel from 0.3.3-1pclos2009 to 0.3.5-1pclos2010 but wants to remove the vlc installation
This seems like total nonsense, but maybe this will be resolved if I can fix issue 1.

3. Synaptic is also offering me an update for Thunderbird, which I don't want.
Is there some mechanism to prevent unwanted individual updates being offered?

Dave

I don't suspect that it is just you, I to have not gotten any new updates for a couple of weeks.

I read a post a week or so ago, also asking about the lack of updates and the response was,
don't worry synaptic won't lie to you.

The lack of updates is because PCLOS 2010 is coming and that's what's been getting the attention.

In fact - this was posted about 4 hours ago:

"Started populating the 2010 repo. Please do not use this repo with 2009. It will break your 2009 install."

Tex from twitter.com/iluvpclinuxos

Thanks. "Hopefully", there will be some kind of announcement and and info about moving to 2010.

Sorry, I don't go in for this twitter stuff.

I posted a message about PCLinuxOS 2009.2 and got no response.
If PCLinuxOS 2010 uses the same bad way of installing it as PCL 2009.2
then I will be afraid of updating. KD4 seems to be in a beta state as far
as I can tell. I had to take PCL 2009.2 off my puter and replace it with
PCL 2009.1 and everything is ok.
Sure would like some knowledgeable insight.
Could just be my newness to PCL.

Hi Texstar

Quote
If you want to keep  up with the development you can look at twitter. If not then you can wait for official announcements here on the forum. Whatever floats your boat.

My donation of between $100 and $200 a year are made from this LINK which I have always taken to be a link from PCLinuxOS's Home Page, so I would have thought that any development news would be reported on the Home Page, rather then having to go to another Web site that has no affiliation [that I can see] to PCLinuxOS, to find out news on current and future development, to me that seem is rather strange.

With regards
Safe sailing to you.  ;)

Has the OP's question been answered? There is a way to "PIN" a package but I can't seem to find the thread that explained how to do it. That function "used" to stop any updates to specific applications.  ::)

I found it here

Thanks tschommer and thank you rudge for keeping this thread alive.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the remaining issues I raised:
libical0 upgrade from 0.43-2pclos2009 to 0.43-3pclos2010 but wants to uninstall almost all of KDE4
libxcb-util-devel from 0.3.3-1pclos2009 to 0.3.5-1pclos2010 but wants to remove the vlc installation

Oh! and Texstar it does NOT "float my boat" to twatter, twetter, twitter, twotter, twutter. If I am looking for PCLOS information, my obviously stupid and ridiculous logic and reason guides me to seek out www.pclinuxos.com Surely it is just as easy for you to type updates into this forum as it is to twat, twet, twit, twot, twut, or whatever it is you do in that forum.

Ok the Twitter Discussion has moved as it was OT to the original question.

That discussion is here

As for the question, check to make sure that on your chosen repo that the kde part is not active you can not have kde4 and kde sections active at the same time - its either/or,

The Repos are currently frozen (ie no updates) as 2010 is coming which will require a reinstall (that announcement is on the forum)
