[SOLVED]GAAAH! Bloat!
« on: January 28, 2010, 07:28:50 AM »
Greetings again.

Ok, I got KDE4 installed finally. But, I REALLY did not want all of this excess "fluff" to get installed with it! Like all these games & educational apps.

I use MiniMe for a reason you know...to avoid stuff I dont need;)

Surely theres a minimal install for kDE4 available, right?

there is 3 packages to install kde4, task-kde4-minimal, task-kde4 and task-kde4-extra

which one you used to install kde4?

minimal should be your choice to avoid the games from the beginning, i don't know what package should be uninstalled by synaptic to remove the games you don't want

I ran task-kde4-minimal on my test setup and all the "fluff" was also installed. Solution is to remove through synaptic.

H'ooooo boy...

Ok, thats what that was. I thought the "minimal" was something else. and proceeded to installing the "task-kde4" package.

No worries. I'll just start over from scratch. Seeing as I hav'nt started moving any files over yet.

Thanks T6. I'll try that out. I'll update this as "solved" once I try it.

Aw man. You gotta be kidding-_-

I tried KDE4 1st on SUSE. And that was a chore & a uphill brawl pecking away at the things you dont want/need. As apparently most of it seems intertwined with something else. Usually that "something else" is important for the system.

in kde4, the minimal specifies that not game present when i verified it on synaptic

i can't verify it because i installed minimal, kde4 and extra between many other apps

Same here, no games and no educational in the repos.

Hey, good call T6!

The "minimal" package was just what I needed! So in full summary to those just seeing this thread and wondering how to avoid getting 20-something games and other apps they may not use piled onto their system...

"Grab task-kde4-minimal"
