How to configure USB hotplug reaction?
« on: January 27, 2010, 02:18:33 PM »
Hi,
maybe this isn't the correct subforum, if so I apologise.

When I plug in my USB camera, some software starts up (actually, a window asking what application I want to launch). I wish to change this behaviour so it automatically runs a script file (a la this clever chap) -- but I don't want that to happen if I plug in my external hard drive (just the camera).

For the sake of argument, let's say my script is at "/home/my/camera_script" and that it works just fine when executed manually.

Now, I do have a "/etc/hotplug/usb/" directory, but there's nothing in it yet.

Any guidance how to set up pc so my script is triggered when my USB camera is plugged in?

You might have to re-wright the HAL Daemon to do this, but it could be done.
