Pulseaudio not working
« on: January 22, 2010, 07:03:25 AM »
Hope this is in the right place.

I've been trying to get pulseaudio working for about a week as I think it's needed for bluetooth audio streaming.

I have it enabled in PCC>Hardware>Sound Configuration, with automatic routing for alsa and user switching.
Sound card is reported as "snd_intel8X0[ALSA]" and Alsa works fine in all apps.

If I select pulseaudio as preferred in any apps or in SystemSettings>Multimedia then when the app starts a notification pops up telling me that Pulseaudio is not working and the system is falling back to the Alsa driver.

See attached pic.

I've checked that all the pulseaudio stuff is installed including the alsa source/sink modules and I've re-installed where necessary, I've also removed/reinstalled the packages where possible without removing task-kde4 etc.

No joy :(

If I try to start pulseaudio from konsole it reports:

E: module.c: Failed to open module "module-alsa-sink": file not found
E: main.c: Module load failed.
E: main.c: Failed to initialize daemon.

The modules are definitely on my system, in /usr/lib/pulse-0.9.21/modules

Also paman is not found, nothing seems to work.

Anyone? :)

Thanks, am I right in thinking A2DP streamed audio won't work without it?

Are you recommending that uncheck Enable PulseAudio in PCC Sound Configuration?  I installed 2009, but I see this item checked.

Thanks
