it has been doing it since last year in pclinux and maybe longer in other distros, you should try it, you can find it as a good surprise  :D

Well, my current computer only has one drive (and three partitions) so no need at the moment!

But I notice that unmounted externals (USB drives) don't seem to appear anywhere.  Once mounted, they do show up,  but they have to auto-mount, other wise I can't seem to find a way... in the GUI, that is.

Inserted USB flash drives show in Dolphin here ......  unmounted, as I absolutely refuse to allow any inserted device to automount.

Possibly it will display when the media has a filesystem on it to be recognised?
