And I'm sorry for the short fuse I displayed, vc.
Perfectly understandable, given the intrinsic nature of my 'personality' (or rather, lack thereof). I have had to deal with it for my entire life - what everyone chafes at here are mere moments and brief glimpses.
Just ask my wife...
Even though I do not agree, because I'm totally happy not having to start a file manager each time I plug in a device, but rather just click on the device and choose my action.
But that's just it, tschommer - I plug in a device, and there is no way to
Mount it except by opening it in a new File Manager instance. Please refer to the (yet another) screencap that I've attached below (I do apologise for the nearly-illegible white text; however, that seems to be the default for the 'Plix' theme, and I've not yet found a suitable typeface to replace it with).
And when I'm done with it, I just open the notifier and click on the little arrow to the right to safely remove/eject the medium in question.
Yes, I did find that feature readily; however, it is still more complicated and much less direct than simply right-clicking upon a device icon and choosing 'Safely Remove' directly within the file manager Tree panel.
On the other hand, the file manager (be it Konqueror or Dolphin) displays all currebtly attached devices, so I feel no need to have an extra media:/ function.
As far as I have been able to discover, Konqueror does not have any equivalent to the 'Places' panel in Dolphin. On the other hand, Dolphin does not have any means of permanently displaying its Tabbing feature, nor any ability to open files
in a new tab. Therefore, in their present form neither are fully useful, as both programs have now had their functionality deliberately limited.
What were they (KDE) thinking
But it's always a matter of taste...
Usually, yes... but not necessarily "always". Some people have no alternative but to deal with unusual situations - I am one such, unfortunately.
Anyhow; enough of me - here is the screencap I referred to:
This is the actual 'popup' menu displayed by the Device Notifier (but now from the 'testbed' machine instead, for improved legibility) - note there is no 'Mount' option available there, nor is such apparent anywhere within the Device Notifier itself also:
